So what I think will happen is that Ukraine will target Crimea…Russia would have to reinforce it and that would stretch their resources to the max but as it is a bottleneck supplies to the Russians will easily be cut and the whole of Crimea surrounded once the land bridge to Russia is destroyed as it will be soon….All these things are completely obvious….The Russian military is stupidly obsessive about taking a few rather unimportant towns using pincer movements and WW1 tactics of rolling barrages…They just don't get it….But then they have not won a battle since 1945….

This move is a little inexplicable. Everyone knows you beat an amphibious landing on the beach, not after they've had weeks to establish a bridgehead. If it's a small force just sitting around on the southern bank it's odd that the Russians haven't done anything about this precarious position. Never thought Ukraine could get across the river without a massive assault with many casualties. Sure hope they can expand from there and bring across the tanks and heavy artillery. I can also see it as a chess move. Poking and prodding until they get Russia to commit, and then launching the real counter attack in the best place at that time. This could well have been another probe that did so well, they were like "okay, they're gonna give it up, we'll take it," which could also further pressure Russian forces to make a choice. If the beach-head grows at all, soon it will be VERY hard to uproot, which means a significant cost to men and resources. Which could easily open up other lanes of attack for the much better equipment they got from the Allies to really hammer and exploit.

We likely won't know the real plan until it begins, but I do think the early stages are beginning.
